Your GLP-1 Questions, Answered

Your GLP-1 Questions, Answered

What are GLP-1s?

GLP-1s are peptide injections that can facilitate weight loss. They are known to suppress hunger and deliver feelings of being full, faster and for longer. Average weight loss is 1-3 lbs per week (individual results will vary).

Which GLP-1s are offered at Alchemy 43?

Alchemy 43 currently offers semaglutide and tirzepatide. Your licensed medical provider can recommend which, if either, medication is appropriate for your individual treatment goals during your Initial Visit consultation.

Are GLP-1 injections right for me?

Your first Weight Management appointment at Alchemy 43 will consist of a thorough consultation with one of our licensed medical providers to determine if GLP-1s are appropriate for you.

In general, this medication is intended to accelerate weight loss when used as part of a healthy lifestyle including diet and exercise. GLP-1s aren’t recommended for those who have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or multiple endocrine neoplasias as well as those who have an allergy to GLP-1 medications, a history of pancreatitis, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How much weight will I lose?

While individual results can vary, people taking GLP-1s average 1-3 lbs of weight loss per week with injections alone. However, those incorporating lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise may lose even more. Your licensed medical provider will recommend the appropriate dosage and goals based on your individual treatment plan.

What are the side effects?

Like any medication, there is a risk of side effects from GLP-1s. However, common side effects usually improve as your body acclimates to the medication and your licensed medical provider can recommend ways to help you manage the symptoms. The most common side effect associated with GLP-1s is nausea, which is best controlled by making small changes in dosing as recommended by your licensed medical provider.

Less common side effects include belching, constipation, diarrhea, and fatigue. GLP-1s have also been associated with a slight increase in gallstones, and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) in Type 2 diabetics who also take insulin and medications known as sulfonylurea’s (Glyburide, Glimepiride, Glipizide).

How much does it cost?

Initial Visit: $85 + your first shot ($119 for semaglutide or $169 for tirzepatide)
Subsequent visits start at $119 for semaglutide or $169 for tirzepatide
