The Science Behind It
FAQ
What are dermal fillers and how do they work?
Dermal fillers are made from a synthesized form of hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance naturally produced by our bodies. When injected, HA plumps the skin to fill lines and restore volume for a smooth and contoured result.
How should I prepare for my appointment?
- Avoid alcohol and blood thinners, including but not limited to Aspirin, Vitamin E, and fish oil the day before treatment
- Aim to take Arnica 2-3 days prior to treatment or day of treatment to help minimize possible bruising or swelling
- Stay hydrated
What can I expect afterwards?
With any injectable treatment, there is always the possibility of some minor injection site reactions. These could include bruising, swelling, tenderness, or itching, which are all normal and temporary. As far as downtime, there really isn’t any! You can go about your day as usual post-treatment.
Aftercare:
- Avoid massaging or manipulating the treated area and try not to sleep on your stomach or side (or in a position that would put pressure on the treated area) for 24 hours
- Avoid exercise for 24 hours
- Avoid facials for 72 hours
- Avoid lasers, skin tightening treatments, microneedling, and chemical peels for 2 weeks
When will I see results, and how long will they last?
You’ll start to see results from fillers immediately, and you can expect to see full results in 2 weeks.
Aftercare:
- Lips/Under Eyes/Smile Lines: most fillers for these areas are FDA-approved to last up to 12 months, but we suggest refreshing your filler every 4-6 months or whenever you feel like you need a little boost.
- Cheeks/Jawline/Chin: although it can vary from person to person, most fillers used to treat these areas are FDA-approved to last up to 1-2 years.
- All over: more of an HA skincare treatment, it gives you an instant, lasting glow, and restores hydration with results lasting up to six months.
What areas can I treat?
- Lips (smooth, plump and balance)
- Cheeks (contour)
- Tear troughs (smooth)
- Jawline (contour and define)
- Chin (contour and define)
- Nasolabial (marionette) folds (smooth)
